Exploring a small town in New Mexico near I-40, including Church Rock and Gallup along Route 66.

This project explores the stretch between the small town of Church Rock and the city of Gallup in northwestern New Mexico. This area is rich in natural beauty while offering a wide range of places to visit and moments to experience. Church Rock is located within McKinley County. It is most known for the red sandstone formations that define the landscape. One of the most scenic spots is the Pyramid Rock Trail, which located near Red Rock State Park. This park is a gathering place for the surrounding area and holds cultural activity’s throughout the year. Each season brings its own events and traditions. In July the Wild Thing Championship Bullriding attracts people to the Red Rock Park. August features the Gallup Inter-Tribal Indian Ceremonial a celebration of Native American culture and heritage. In December visitors and locals gather for the Red Rock Balloon Rally. Between these events the area hosts a variety of activities such as mud bogging, motocross races, and other community gatherings. Just a few miles away the Fire Rock Casino adds to the area's mix of fun and cultural activities. Through this project I want to show the viewer the spirit of this place, not just the landscapes but the life that make Church Rock to Gallup a unique part of the American Southwest.
